New safety rules at sea
16 June 2026
A new decree published on June 2, 2026 strengthens measures against dangerous behaviour at sea and aims to improve safety for all maritime users.
Decree No. 2026-434 of June 2, 2026 introduces new measures targeting dangerous behaviour linked to obvious intoxication while operating a motor pleasure craft and loss of vessel control.
Boaters are reminded to adapt their speed and navigation according to traffic conditions, visibility and the presence of other users such as swimmers and divers.
The decree also provides for stronger penalties, including fines, vessel immobilisation and, in some cases, temporary suspension of boating licences.
These new measures underline the importance of responsible boating and compliance with safety rules to ensure safer navigation for everyone.
