Port Vauban’s Biohut® nurseries on France 5

9 February 2022

Our partner Ecocean was featured in the latest episode of the C Jamy show on France 5.

It was an opportunity for Marion Lefevre, Deputy Harbour Master and Environmental Officer, and Céline Cambas Soubra, Biodiversity Project Manager for Port Vauban, to talk about biodiversity and share the species that live in our artificial Biohut® nurseries in Antibes.

SAS Vauban 21 has made making Port Vauban an example port a key objective of the Vauban 21 project, with a particular focus on integration into the environment, conservation and development of biodiversity. Sustainable development is a key consideration during every decision. We face significant challenges every day, which we are committed to rising to via concrete and relevant actions, mainly through partnerships with innovative companies.

Ecocean makes Biohut® artificial nurseries from sustainable materials to restore the ecological function of shallow coastal waters. Here are a few figures from the project in Port Vauban:

  • First installed in 2015
  • 56 Biohut® nurseries are within the port area
  • 60 different marine animal and plant species have been observed in Port Vauban
