Understanding Drought Alert Levels

Restrictions become progressively stricter as the hydrological situation worsens.

🟡 Alert

Washing and rinsing boats with drinking water is prohibited for private individuals, regardless of the method used (bucket, hose, pressure washer, etc.).

Professional boating companies (sales and charter) may continue washing boats only if they use:

• high-pressure equipment;
• a water recycling system.

Within marinas, washing quays, roads and terraces with large quantities of water is also prohibited. Only pressure washing carried out by a local authority or a professional company is permitted. Watering green spaces is prohibited between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.

🟠 Enhanced Alert

The same boat-washing restrictions remain in force.

Private individuals are still prohibited from washing boats with drinking water, while professionals may continue operating only under the same conditions. Additional efforts are required to reduce drinking water consumption.

As at Alert level, washing quays, roads and terraces remains prohibited except for pressure washing carried out by local authorities or professional companies. Watering green spaces is prohibited, except for young plantings less than three years old.

🔴 Crisis

This is the highest level of restriction.

Boat washing is completely prohibited, including for professional operators. The exemptions granted under the previous alert levels no longer apply.

Washing quays, roads and terraces is almost entirely prohibited, except where required for health and safety reasons. Watering green spaces also remains prohibited, except for young plantings less than three years old.

Current situation at Port Vauban

The municipality of Antibes Juan-les-Pins is currently under Enhanced Drought Alert.

The restrictions described above therefore fully apply at Port Vauban. In particular, washing and rinsing boats with drinking water remains prohibited for private individuals.

Permanent exemptions

The following activities remain authorised regardless of the alert level:

• engine rinsing using a strictly limited volume of water;
• washing fishing boats for sanitary reasons;
• boatyards equipped with water-saving and recycling systems;
• uses supplied exclusively with desalinated seawater or stored rainwater, provided their origin can be demonstrated.

EcoboatWash by Aqualuo remains available

The EcoboatWash by Aqualuo washing station at Port Vauban remains operational throughout drought periods. As it operates exclusively with desalinated seawater, it benefits from a permanent exemption under current regulations.

It allows vessels up to 15 metres to be cleaned while fully complying with the applicable restrictions.
